Laboratory experiments
The entrance doors are locked at 5.00 pm. (can vary, but don’t gamble), so if you arrive late you have to use the library (HUB) entrance or make another arrangement to get in.
The database experiment starts at 5.00 pm while the other two start at 5.15 pm.
The lists of Swedish headings (sökordslistorna) are available on the document page.
Preparatory work for laboratory experiments
- Databases: see compendium. Please note that there will be a short test (dugga) before the the experiment starts. Here is a link to Padron-McCarthy’s database course (in Swedish)
- Computer-based medical records: Read the paper The PEN&PAD data entry system: from prototype to practical system. It is included in the orange compendium.
- Terminology: Read the booklet Introduction to Description Logics, which will be handed out later on. If the subject and way of thinking is new to you, you might have to read it more than once. Don’t worry if you don’t understand the details—the lecture on linguistics and logics is intended to clarify things.
Essay declaration
This declaration should be inserted and signed on the front page of your essay.
Urkund
We use the Urkund system, which is a tool for tracing text reuse. The main motivation is to help you write high-quality texts.
Admittedly, it is sometimes tempting to use others’ phrases—for example when they sound great and you think this is what you want to express. Using the sentence(s) without reference is not an option, and quotations should be used sparsely,
so there is a better solution. Think again and try to find out what the passage really means. Then rephrase it in your own words, which is referred to as paraphrasing, and in this ways it will certainly serve your purpose even better.
Urkund will help you remember this.
